Quarterly Business Plans Work Like Magic

January 15, 2025

The Main Takeaway Of This Episode: Quarterly business plans are the bridge between your annual goals and daily tasks. They turn fluffy intentions into actionable steps that create the change you need to move your business forward. Did I mention quarterly plans are important?

Kia ora and welcome back! 🎉 I hope you had a fabulous Christmas break and are ready to make 2025 your best year yet. Let’s dive into something that is probably on your mind right now: PLANNING 🚀.

Contrary to what you may think, business plans aren’t static or boring or tedious (I find them quite exciting)—they are the secret weapon that helps you achieve the “impossible.” I used to avoid planning, entirely caught up in the client's wishes, wants, and needs. But several years ago, I made a change, and wow, it transformed everything!

I break my plan for the year into quarterly business plans and again into manageable monthly tasks. I assign responsibilities, and track progress weekly.

Because: ACCOUNTABILITY + ACTION = SUCCESS! 🏆

How can you do this too? 👇

Creating A Quarterly Business Plan Is Easier Than You Think!

In this episode, we talk about how and why I think you too need to create quarterly business plans.

1. Why Quarterly Business Plans Are Essential For Growth

If you want to achieve new results, you have to change your approach. Quarterly business plans are the bridge between your annual goals and daily tasks. It’s not just about setting intentions, but breaking them into actionable steps that keep you moving forward.

2. The Importance Of Consistency

Lock in dates for creating your quarterly business plans at the start of the year. These sessions should be non-negotiable, taking place during the last week of a quarter or the first week of the next. Allocate about four hours and treat this time as a priority for your business.

3. Why It’s Smart To Involve Your Team In Creating Your Quarterly Business Plan

If you have a team, include them. Their insights help you avoid blind spots, and team collaboration ensures everyone is on the same page, driving your goals forward.

The Simple, Structured Process I Recommend for Making A Quarterly Business Plan

The four-step process for creating a quarterly business plan I recommend includes:

  • Celebrating Wins: Acknowledge achievements to start with positivity. 🎉
  • Making Adjustments: Use the KISS quadrant (Keep, Improve, Stop, Start) to refine processes.
  • Reflecting On The Pervious Quarter: Assess what worked, what didn’t, and carry over unfinished tasks.
  • Planning The New Quarter: Choose up to four focus areas and break them into monthly tasks.

How You Can Help Yourself Be Accountable

Translate your quarterly business plan into actionable tasks with clear deadlines and accountability. Use tools like Monday.com (my favourite) to track progress and stay on course.

And when all is said and done, I have this to add: Make it your own! Start simple, tweak as needed, and stay committed.

Let’s make this year epic. 🌟
